Hidden Gem Alert Yesterday a friend and I tried *Rincon Catracho*, a cozy Honduran restaurant off Airline Drive (close to base). The staff were so welcoming and the service was impeccable. I have NEVER had Honduran cuisine before and my god have I been missing out. I don’t think I’ve eaten anything better all year. The lovely woman who assisted us essentially picked out our food for us (after we told her we were newbies) and suggested we try Banana soda as it’s a very popular drink. I did not expect to truly enjoy the Banana soda - but it was pretty darn good! It also paired so well with the food. I can’t quite list out what we ended up ordering, but one of the plates she said was the Honduran version of a (chicken) taco, which tasted like a crossover between a tostado and and egg role in the absolute best way. My god was it good. Like REALLY good. The second was a fried chicken thigh quarter that was topped with a creamy sweet sauce (Pollo Chuco) - ABSOLUTELY incredible!! We also tried a roasted carne asada dish that was tender and divine. All of the meat was exquisitely flavored, rich, and moist. Fried green bananas? Never tried them before but you better believe I cleaned that plate. I had intended to take some photos but by the time I remembered it, the food was gone Really, I can’t truly put into words how good this food was. You just need to try it. I already know I’m going to be craving this everyday for 2 weeks (and I actually went again tonight for dinner). Keep in mind this is a small restaurant (maybe 15 seats or so), have patience waiting for the food as it does take a little bit (worth every single minute), and be mindful that English is not everyone’s first language (and if you only speak a single one yourself… well, I’m sure you get my point).
